Configure DMS for linking files to Material master

Hi,

I dont have knowledge in DMS and my client requirement is to link file to material master to access techincal specification which is stored in some external drive,

So please provide me information on configuring DMS and on how to access external hard drive,

Also please let me know is there any additional hardware purchase is required for connecting from R/3 to External drive
